OUR STORY
ORTEGA AROMATIZERS
Telling the chronological order of the Personal Aromatizers is telling the story of the path we took to germinate the idea, to grow in the wind of dreams, to be born in the world and to continue growing in the market. This story coincides with my own.
I will tell you the story of the Personal Aromatizers. It is a twenty-year-old story that I have summarized in eight episodes.
A Fertile Field
A fertile field for a good seed, this is how the Personal Aromatizers germinated.
It was in 19xx that I, Marco Ortega, for some unknown reason, decided to abandon my nomadic lifestyle and my spontaneous work as an artist, which I had been leading for over 10 years, to dedicate myself exclusively to trade – buying and selling items.
I have always had a purpose in everything I do, and I have always been connected to the movements that corroborate the art of living well. Entangled in my decision, I looked for a product to sell.
The only requirement was that it should have an added value which I had gained through personal growth.
Flower Episode
At that time I did not study with books and traveled a lot, rarely staying more than three months in the same city. When asked about creativity, I used to explain the spontaneous creativity flow that brought the energy and shapes of sculptures and other objects I made, as well as writing poems and playing musical instruments.
At the end of an afternoon while I was walking around a little down, I came across a fallen flower on the floor, I lifted it and felt its soft aroma changing my mood. Then I spelt the name ‘Aromatherapy’ for the first time, attributing to the aroma of the flower my refreshed mood, gifted with this almost mystical experience. This is how I entered the universe of aromas and that marks my first contact with Aromatherapy.
The Purpose
From this experience I strengthen my purpose, and reinvigorated I add the noble art of Aromatherapy to the idea of acting exclusively with the trade in the Art of Aromatherapy.
This purpose would be the trigger for the motivation to migrate to another lifestyle and leave behind the old “hippie-nomadic” artist style, as many liked to call me when I traveled around the roads of Brazil.
I settled down in São Paulo, and took over the position of commercial representative. I no longer acted with any kind of artistic work, being my only relation to art an indirect and discreet way of advertising the noble Art of Aromatherapy.
I then start selling essence oils as my only business activity.
The Conceptions of the Personal Aromatizers
Because of my respect to others, I went in pursuit of the most sophisticated materials to make sure that I would really be selling quality essential oils and in partnership with trusted professionals.
In this search, I came across people who were willing to help, such as the Institute of Agronomy of Campinas and UNICAMP.
It was at this time that I had my richest experiences in the area of Aromatherapy, both in scientific content and in testimonials.
I delved into essential oils, and understood the influence they had on brain circuits when in contact with olfactory eyelashes through inhalation, and how much these molecular structures are sensitive to light and heat.
Creativity develops through the need and detachment from the old patterns.
Based on this principle, the Personal Aromatizers were created.
Advent of Personal Aromatizers
Back when I was selling the essential oils, there were not many options on how to use them. Especially in psychotherapeutic practices, Aromatherapy was applied by dispersing the essential oil into the environment, now known as candle or environmental aromatizers, but this practice could cause a molecular breakdown in essential oils.
The reason for creating the Personal Aromatizers was to enable us to use them even when away from our comfort zones.
The questions are windows for creativity. Question: How to use Aromatherapy in extremely stressful moments, so as to ease the discomfort and generate more confidence and effectiveness? Question: How to carry the essential oils in the best moments of our lives? Question: How to carry a small amount of essential oil near the olfactory system, everywhere, full time, in an accessible, discreet and efficient way?
Questions like these challenged me to find a useful and affordable solution to meet those needs. The more people I imagined benefiting from the Personal Aromatizers, the more motivated I got. And it has been so up to now.
Birth of Personal Aromatizers
The sale of the essential oils were no longer priorities, my attention turned to the creation of the Personal Aromatizadores.
I was obstinate to find a solution to make Aromatherapy more accessible and practical. The art with its creative appeal again pulsed inside me, and I no longer worried about selling or buying. My focus was on the creation of that solution.
The main question was which material to use to carry the essential oils in order to preserve their qualities.
After thorough research, ceramic was chosen as the best option for being resistant to chemical agents, resistant to impact, non-oxidizing and for its beauty and charm.
I was then faced with another challenge – to develop the art of ceramics.
The Personal Aromatizers are finally born ‘dressed’ in ceramics.
Single Father
I saw myself as a single father. Hard days followed: developing the product in ceramics, understanding the market, legal, financial and labor issues, serving the market, a tsunami of news. Everything sounded like foreign language to me.
The Personal Aromatizers then met their ‘godmothers’ and ‘godfathers’.
The first incentive to bring them to market was in 19xx, when I was at an aromatherapy symposium and I met Sandra Spiri. She invited me to leave the Personal Aromatizers on display at her stand in a trade fair. The acceptance was huge, and soon all the pieces had been sold.
From this point on, other important companies started to adhere to the Personal Aromatizers, such as Bio Essence, Aromalife, Phythoterapica, Laszlo Aromatherapy and Terra Flor.
Another important godmother was Katie, who believed in the Personal Aromatizers and, with a lot of persistence, spread the Personal Aromatizers through Young LiLving (American company of essential oils) around the USA and a good portion of the planet.
At this stage, the Personal Aromatizers reached their youth.
Reaching Maturity
So that the Personal Aromatizers would not stop growing and reach maturity in 2015, I joined my brother Maurício Ortega and his wife Silvana Bhering, both with experience in the industrial area.
Now together at Ortega Aromatizadores, we combine our skills, knowledge and efforts to to keep on producing the best products so that you can take full advantage of the benefits of Aromatherapy everywhere full time.
